With Keon Keeley committing, are more 5-stars next?
Keon Keeley’s commitment to Alabama on Monday afternoon wasn’t unexpected, as the five-star edge defender has been linked to the Crimson Tide since he decommitted from Notre Dame in August. But even before then, the Crimson Tide had their sights set on the No. 10 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class.
With signing day approaching, Keeley’s pledge puts Alabama at 25 commitments for the class with several more targeted. Here are some updated recruiting thoughts.

How Virginia Tech flipped QB recruit from Nebraska
By August, William “Pop” Watson III was comfortably a Nebraska commitment, in the fold for several months. But with coaches touring a New England circuit of camps at various top high schools, he wanted to throw to his uncommitted receiver teammates at Springfield (Mass.) Central to help them catch a recruiter’s eye.
As the camp commenced, the group of 30 or 40 coaches, which included Virginia Tech, started migrating to the quarterback who was putting on a show.
“They were all huddled around him, watching him throw the football,” his father and coach Bill Watson said. “He kind of blew everyone away.”

Washington lands CB commitment
Washington added a commitment Monday from cornerback Thaddeus Dixon, a transfer from Long Beach (Calif.) City College. Originally a member of the 2020 signing class, Dixon spent the last two seasons at LBCC and has three years to play two.
In eight games this season, Dixon recorded 34 tackles with two interceptions, eight pass breakups and 2 1/2 tackles for loss. He also reports offers from Fresno State, Hawaii, Troy and Connecticut, plus several FCS schools.
Injuries and inexperience at cornerback hurt the Huskies in 2022, and it was no secret they were in search of veteran reinforcements. While they might continue to pursue options in the transfer portal, Dixon, listed at 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, at least provides some JUCO experience and is the fifth defensive back committed in Washington’s 2023 class.

- He initially committed to Notre Dame in June 2021 but decommitted in August 2022. Ohio State was Alabama’s top competition at this stage.
- The 6-foot-6, 242-pound Keeley is from Berkeley Prep in Tampa, Fla.

Nebraska adds Syncere Safeeullah to 20213 class
Nebraska’s third 2023 commitment under new coach Matt Rhule is Syncere Safeeullah, a 6-foot-1 cornerback from IMG Academy in Florida. He’s set to visit this weekend.
Rhule has so far followed his old blueprint in pursuing versatile athletes. Safeeullah looks like another.
Busy day for Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech added three commitments to its 2023 class Sunday, flipping two prospects and adding another to bump its class up to 34th in the team composite rankings.
The Hokies got a commitment first from WR Ayden Greene out of Powell, Tenn. He decommitted from Cincinnati after Luke Fickell went to Wisconsin. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound WR had 1,127 yards and 19 touchdowns this past fall and is the No. 534 recruit nationally.
Nebraska QB pledge William "Pop" Watson III out of Springfield, Mass, flipped his commitment to the Hokies. He threw for 5,169 yards and 62 touchdowns in during his career, running for 33 touchdowns.
Tech also flipped RB Jeremiah Coney, who was previously committed to Appalachian State. The 6-foot, 194-pounder from Hermitage High in Richmond ran for 1,408 yards and 21 TDs this fall.

Former Louisville commit follows Satterfield to Cincinnati
Jayden Davis, a 3-star safety out of Georgia, commits to Cincinnati on Sunday. Davis, ranked No. 472 nationally in the 247Sports Composite, was previously committed to Scott Satterfield and his staff at Louisville.
Canes add 4-star running back
Christopher Johnson, a 5-11, 180-pound four-star running back with elite track speed from Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Dillard, committed to the Miami Hurricanes on Sunday over offers from Ole Miss and Clemson. Johnson visited Miami over the weekend.
As a junior, Johnson won Florida’s Class 3A state title in both the 100 meters (104.5 seconds) and 200 meters (20.78). He caught plenty of passes out of the backfield at Dillard.
He’s the first running back Miami has added to its 2023 class after the departures of 2021 leading rusher Jaylan Knighton (SMU) and Thad Franklin (in the portal).
By adding Johnson, the Hurricanes moved up one spot and past Oklahoma for the No. 7 recruiting class in the 247Sports Composite team rankings.
