Get past the Barricade
Now that you’re on the way to the Medical Deck, you’re going to find some crates that are blocking your path. You’ll find a crate with a corpse and a blue light, this is a Kinesis Module. Picking this up will allow you to grab objects with Kinesis that you can move around, drop, or even launch objects.
In the image below you can see Isaac moving the crates out of the way with Kinesis. There are a couple things to note here. Next to Isaac’s ammo count is a Magnet symbol. When you aim at an object and see this symbol, that object can be moved with Kinesis. This same magnet symbol can be found on select objects movable with Kinesis well.
Keep moving forward and you’ll reach the Tram Station for the Medical Deck. You’ll find a dying security officer who has been stabbed by a necromorph blade. You’ll be able to pick up her Pulse Rifle when she passes on. While you’re here, override the lock on the Tram Station so you can travel here again using the tram shuttle.
When you reach the Security Checkpoint, you’ll see that the path to the morgue is blocked by a barricade. In order to get past this barricade, you’ll need to make a bomb using hydrazine fuel and a shock pad. Fortunately, both items can be found in the Medical Deck.
After a conversation with Hammond about this, you’ll be on your way to gett the materials. You can choose which one to pick up first using your Missions menu but we’ll be going for the Hydrazine first. Using your Locator will point you towards Imaging Diagnostics, so head that way.
Find the Hydrazine
You’ll find the infamous “Headbanger Hallway” here were a patient bangs his head on a wall a little too hard. Keep going to reach the Imaging Diagnostics room and move the patient in the tube out of the way.
You’ll find an empty slot that needs a battery. It’s actually right behind you if you’re facing the empty slot, use Kinesis to place the battery into the slot and allocate power to the elevator next to you.
Go up the elevator and move the platform using Kinesis to cross the path. Keep following your Locator and make your way to the Zero-G Therapy room. You’ll be in a breached hallway that’s exposed to space. You’ll notice a timer on Isaac’s back, this is the remaining air in his air tank. If it reaches 0 seconds, Isaac will suffocate.
Once you make your way forward, you’ll find yourself in the Zero-G Therapy room. The room will be dark at first but the lights will gradually turn on after you enter. You’ll encounter some Leapers here so deal with them and get a feel for Zero-G combat.
After you deal with the Leapers, you might find yourself disoriented as you would have likely altered your orientation. You can use your “Realign” button or rotate buttons while in Zero-G to gain your bearings.
With the Leapers gone, now would be a good time to get a handle on Zero-G controls. Enter the room on the way to the other side so you can find the Hydrazine Canister on a table.
Make your way out of Zero-G Therapy and back into the breached hallway. An asteroid will collide with the ship and block the way you came in from. In order to get out, fly using Zero-G and head upwards. You’ll find another hallway you can follow and get back inside the ship.
You’ll encounter an elevator shaft that you’ll need to fly down. You’ll eventually find yourself back in the headbanger hallway. Walk back to the security checkpoint where the barricade is.
Find the Shock Pad
To find the Shock Pad, you’ll need to go towards the Research Wing. You’ll encounter a malfunctioning door that you’ll need to use Stasis on to get through. Make your way to the Main Lab and get ready for a fight as once you go inside, the quarantine lights will turn on and lock you inside. This will be the first intense combat scenario you’ll encounter.
All around you through wall and ceiling vents, necromorphs will pop out and attack you. Defeat the ones upstairs and head down the cargo lift to defeat the necromorphs on the bottom floor. Once they are all defeated, the quarantine locks will lift and you can freely explore the room again.
Follow your Locator and make your way to the Bioprosthetics room. Here you’ll find a survivor fail at surviving as he gets his head blown off by a Lurker. Now’s a good time to talk about Lurkers!
These are necromorphs made from babies that will attack you from a distance. They do so by launching projectiles from their tentacles. Aim for their tentacles and shoot them off to defeat a Lurker.
You can read up on how to defeat every type of Necromorph in Dead Space Remake from our dedicated guide. Learn helpful tips and tricks to save you time, credits and bullets and always be prepared.
Once you defeat the Lurkers, you’ll need to get to the Limb Stimulation Therapy room. Here you’ll find a bed with a dead patient being shocked by the Shock Pad you need. Take away power from the Shock Pad using the circuit breaker next to the bed and pick it up.
After you get the Shock Pad, get back to the Security Check Point where the barricade is. With both components, you’ll be able to see a hologram where the bomb can be placed. Place the bomb there and get behind cover. You’ll notice these arrows pointing towards the spot you’ll need to be in. Take cover and watch the fireworks then proceed through the new path towards the morgue.
Finding the Captain’s RIG
Head through the path and you’ll encounter a room where you’ll only ever have good, non-traumatizing memories, the Emergency Room! You can actually find a hologram of Nicole here that you can watch. This actually starts the side mission “Scientific Methods”.
Should you ever want to focus on a side mission instead of your main mission, open up your Missions menu and select the side mission’s objective. This will also change your Locator’s direction when you use it as indicated by a yellow line.
Back to the primary mission, you’ll need to turn off anything the circuit breaker is powering to remove the battery. Taking the battery out will turn off the lights and bring in some necromorphs. Defeat them and bring the battery to the opposite end of the room where a battery slot is. Go through the door and make your way through ER Hallway A.
You’ll enter a hall with windows that will shatter as you walk through. The blast shields will close to allow oxygen into the room and you’ll have to fight some Lurkers. Defeat the Lurkers and find a battery nearby to place inside the slot to open the morgue.
Now’s a good time to point out that you should stomp all of these corpses laying about. This will be explained in due time but trust me on this, stomp ALL the bodies until at least 3 of their 4 limbs are removed.
After stomping the bodies, head to where the captain’s corpse is to get his RIG. A cutscene will play where Isaac is removing the RIG but something pops out which places its proboscis into the captain’s head. This turns the captain into a Slasher!
This new necromorph variant is known as an Infector. Infectors are physically weak and pose a small threat by themselves. Still, they will ALWAYS be your main priority target in a combat scenario. If left unchecked, they will infect corpses turning them into Slashers.
If you ever see a room with a suspicious amount of corpses, it wouldn’t hurt to stomp all the bodies in case an Infector comes out. Without suitable bodies, Infectors will just attack you instead.
After defeating the Infector and Captain, pick up his RIG to complete your current mission objective. You’ll now have Level 1 Clearance and can access any locked container or door that requires Level 1 Clearance.
Get to Engineering
You’ll learn from Hammond that the Ishimura is being pulled into Aegis VII’s gravity well and is on a crash course for the planet. With the Engineering’s Tram Station offline, you’ll have to head back to the Flight Deck and take a shortcut through there to reach Engineering.
Head to the Medical Deck’s Tram Station and select the Flight Deck. Whenever you reach a new deck in the game, you can override the lockdown at that deck’s Tram Station so you can travel there from other decks easily.
When you make it to the Flight Lounge, a hologram of Chen will appear when he was stabbed by the necromorph. Worry not as there are no actual necromorphs nearby unless the Intensity Director makes one pop in.
When you get to the landing bay where the Kellion blew up, Hammond will open up the shutters leading outside into space. Fly towards there using Zero-G controls and you will have completed Chapter 2!
Side Mission: Scientific Methods
After you watch the hologram of Nicole in the Emergency Room, you’ll need to figure out where she ran off to. The area where she headed towards appeared blocked off.
You’ll need to allocate power from the circuit breaker to the “Shower”. Doing so will open some shutters revealing a Shower room that Nicole had repurposed to be a therapy room to where she can talk to her patients discreetly.
Once you finish watching the hologram, you’ll be able to make more progress with this side mission in Chapter 3.
