Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Hauts-de-Seine
Le Plessis-Robinson has long remained a small agricultural village huddled around its castle. Even if great names succeeded one another like the famous d'Artagnan, Colbert, or Hachette, the city owed its rise only to an idea of genius which had sprung from the spirit of a tavern-keeper called Joseph Gueusquin. It was around 1848 that everything began with the creation of a cabaret... perched in a tree called the Grand Robinson in reference to Robinson Crusoe. The guinguettes are born and the whole Paris rushes with it taking the modest village to an incredible economic boom. The village becomes a city and the economic rise has not since dried up with the creation of garden cities and even with the closing of the last tavern in 1976.

Things to see and do
The walk in the city will reserve you some surprises. From the town hall built in 1412 to the mansions such as the Orangerie, originally a conservation site for orange trees and today a place for cultural exhibitions, the town houses some remarkable buildings that bear witness to its past. The Robinson tree and the old guinguettes, like the Lafontaine pavilion, play a major role in it of course. But it would be too restrictive to stop there and not to see the Colbert castle or the Sertillanges house built in the eighteenth century. The religious heritage is not to be outdone either with the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste of the 12th century classified as Historic Monuments. The Sainte-Marie-Madeleine church has an architectural style typical of the 60's. The Fidel mill is in fact a beautiful house built in place of a mill. As for the castle of La Solitude, its history will move you as much as it intrigues. But the mystery does not stop there and continues with the tower Robinson, neo-Gothic style, built in the nineteenth century. You will end the visit by the low and high garden city, symbol of renewal after the guinguettes. The heritage route allows you to visit all these places in a single walk.
Benefiting from an exceptional environment, the city has kept 1/3 of its surface in green areas. The city hall gardens are very popular for a pleasant relaxing moment. The wood of Solitude is the old park of the castle of the Solitude and promises beautiful walks. The park Henri Sellier will seduce you with its wooded and shady paths. The garden of Sertillanges welcomes you on its benches planted along the paths. The Bois de la Garenne is ideal for a Sunday walk or an early morning jog. The gardens of Robinson owe their name to the guinguettes that made the city famous. The park of the Fidel mill and the pond Colbert complete the natural picture of the city.
